Amid Yamuna’s rising water levels, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday stepped into a water-logged lane in the low lying flood plain area of Yamuna Bazar to review the flood preparedness and control systems in place.
As the water had seeped in some of the settlements situated in low lying floodplains of the river at Yamuna Bazar, the chief minister interacted with the affected residents, assuring all help to them.

The CM also emphasized that the situation in areas adjoining the Yamuna remains under control.
In the morning hours on Tuesday, CM arrived at the settlement in front of the ancient Hanuman Temple located at Yamuna Bazar, while she was accompanied by senior officials.
CM initially reviewed the area making her way up the steps towards a wall, from where she could see residents on rooftops surrounded by floodwaters, with the Yamuna’s strong current rushing behind.
Gupta assured the people that the government had full preparations in place to deal with any emergency and would extend every possible help to those affected.
CM also explained that the Yamuna’s water level had briefly touched close to 206 metres Tuesday morning, but was now fully under control.
She clarified that this settlement lies in the Yamuna’s low-lying floodplain, which is why the water had reached there, but had not advanced further.
CM made it clear that there is no flood-like situation in Delhi, and the river had reached its peak, and now the water was beginning to recede.
She assured that the administration was continuously monitoring developments from the control room, noting that the water was flowing out as swiftly as it was coming in towards the stretch of the river’s water system passing through Delhi.
Gupta mentioned that the government had earlier requested families in the low lying flood plain area of the river to temporarily move to safer locations, though many had chosen to stay back.
At present, the situation is being kept under control, and if required, residents would be evacuated to alternative shelters, she added.
Expressing confidence, Gupta said that the Yamuna’s water level would now recede, and residents would not have to face any serious inconvenience.
It was on Monday as well, that the CM had reviewed the preparedness of all the agencies with regard to flood management, and paid a visit to the crucial points along the river to check on the systems in place.
