Punjab govt gears up for Nanak’s 550th birth aniversary

The Punjab Government would celebrate the 550th Parkash Purb (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Nanak Dev in 2019 on a grand scale.This decision was taken here today at a high level meeting headed by the cultural affairs and tourism minister, Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu at Punjab Bhawan.

In a statement after the meeting, the minister said that in a recent meeting held under the leadership of the Chief Minister (CM) Amarinder Singh it was decided by the state government to celebrate the 550th Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji in 2019 on a grand scale and the responsibility of chalking out a comprehensive roadmap regarding this has been entrusted to his department.

The minister said a World Poetry Festival and World Sacred Music Festival would also be held as part of the celebrations. He further said that the culture of those places would also be given due place in the celebrations which were visited by Guru Nanak Dev.

Sidhu also added that the Punjab Government would approach the Prime Minister for constituting a central level committee concerning the celebrations Apart from this, a written communication would be sent to the Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry to connect those places through Guru Nanak Marg which were visited by Sri Guru Nanak Dev.

He also divulged that the various state governments would also be involved in the celebrations and written communications would also be sent to governments of the other states to hold functions at the places connected with Guru Nanak Dev in their respective states. The minister also disclosed that the CM has already decided in a meeting that the main function would be held at Sultanpur Lodhi.
