Over 9000 vehicles challaned for violation of pollution norms in Delhi in 24 hours

In the ongoing drive against vehicles violating pollution norms in the wake of poor air quality in Delhi, a total of 9325 challans have been issued to erring drivers in the past 24 hours.

These challans were issued for various violations including invalid pollution under control certificates, plying of restricted vehicles, and violations under several other parameters.

As part of the ongoing checks and work done on the field as part of the anti-pollution drive, 454 complaints related to pollution were resolved, and 2348 MT of Construction and Demolition waste lifted in the past 24 hours, which underline the scale of civic action, said Environment Minister Manjinder Sirsa.

The enforcement drive is underway, also at the city’s entry points to bar non-compliant vehicles from entering the city. During the past 24 hours, 83 trucks have been diverted, while 128 inter-state buses were also checked at Delhi’s borders.

Similarly, according to the Delhi environment minister Manjinder Sirsa, over 500 inspections have been conducted during the past one day by the field teams of the agencies including Delhi Pollution Control Committee, MCD, NDMC, Delhi Cantonment Board, PWD, DJB, Revenue, DSIIDC, and the DMRC.

Sirsa said these numbers reflect Delhi’s efforts of all agencies to keep the air clean with over 1200 enforcement teams on the ground day and night that are monitoring, inspecting, and ensuring compliance.

During the past one day, the teams have inspected 387 construction and demolition sites, 79 municipal solid waste locations, 22 Diesel Generator set installations, and 12 hotels and restaurants to check fuel usage and dust control compliance, with actions taken wherever the teams found violations.

To tackle road dust and vehicular pollution, 90 MT of road dust was collected through mechanical sweeping, while 1988 km of roads were cleaned through MRS, 1797 km were water-sprinkled, and 5171 km were covered through anti-smog guns using over 1.07 lakh litres of treated water.

The minister has appealed to the citizens to avoid open waste or biomass burning, prefer using public transport and maintain vehicle PUCs.
