The organization pitched the demand today in their third annual district conference which was held at the Vivekananda College situated in the town where more than hundred professors from different colleges in the district attended the conference.

Marking yet another instance of demand for a university, the Alipurduar district wing of the Trinamul Congress affiliated West Bengal College and University Professors’ Association on Monday uplifted their urge for a separate university in Alipurduar district.

The organization pitched the demand on Monday in their third annual district conference which was held at the Vivekananda College situated in the town where more than hundred professors from different colleges in the district attended the conference.

The meet was inaugurated by Alipurduar MLA, Sourav Chakraborty, it is learnt. The organization in the meanwhile also called to set up an office for the department of higher education in north Bengal.

The district president of West Bengal College and University Professors’ Association, Gobinda Rajbanshi said, “We repeatedly have to visit Kolkata to solve official works related to higher education department which includes a troublesome and hectic journey for us to reach Kolkata from north Bengal.

We appeal the government to establish an office for the department of Higher Education here in north Bengal. The office may initially start functioning at the Uttarkannya.” “We support the demand for a separate university in the district.

A number of personal and professional demands of the college professors have also been highlighted in the conference,” added Mr Rajbanshi.
