Low voting again witnessed in 2nd phase of polling in UP

Mafia don Mukhtar Ansari, who is currently lodged in Banda Jail in various cases, has been sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday in a 34-year-old Ghazipur fake arms licence case here.
The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Ansari in the case.
In a 54-page verdict, the Court of Special Judge (MP-MLA Court) Avnish Gautam convicted the mafia don on Tuesday who was presented during the court hearing, through video conferencing.

On June 5, 2023, the same court sentenced Mukhtar Ansari to life imprisonment in the Awadhesh Rai murder case, who has been convicted in seven cases. The latest conviction of Ansari is in the eighth case.
He was given life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh under IPC 467/120B while under section 420/120B, seven years imprisonment and Rs 50,000 fine. He was awarded seven years imprisonment with a Rs 50,000 fine under 468/120B and six months imprisonment and Rs 2000 fine under the Arms Act.
According to the prosecution, Ansari had applied to the District Magistrate of Ghazipur on June 10, 1987, for a licence for a double-barrel gun. The allegation was that he had obtained the arms licence with the recommendation through fake signatures of the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Ghazipur.
After the fraud was exposed, CB-CID registered a case against five named persons including Mukhtar Ansari, the then Deputy Collector and unknown others at Mohammadabad police station in Ghazipur on December 4, 1990.
After investigation, a chargesheet was filed in the court in 1997 against the then Ordnance Clerk Gaurishankar Srivastava and Mukhtar Ansari. Due to the death of Gaurishankar Srivastava during the hearing, the case against him was closed on August 18, 2021.
