Teams of government officials comprising personnel from the RTO and electricity department were attacked in two separate incidents. The officials were on duty trying to penalise those indulging in overloading and power theft when they faced the wrath of the people.
Police have arrested two persons for attacking the ARTO and a case has been registered against some residents on the complaint of power department officials.
ARTO Dinesh Kumar and his team were checking vehicles for overloading on Sardhana-Daurala road on Tuesday evening when he was attacked. While checking, the team stopped a truck carrying construction material and found that it was carrying the load more than the prescribed limit.
The truck was impounded by the ARTO, who also slapped a penalty and directed the staff to take the vehicle to the RTO office for further proceedings.
Meanwhile, the truck driver narrated the incident to the transport company owners on phone.  When the ARTO was busy doing the paperwork, some people turned up at the scene in SUV carrying a police sticker. They forced the constable to stop the truck on NH-58. They allegedly misbehaved with ARTO Kumar, damaged the windscreen of his car and dragged the constable into their vehicle.
ARTO informed the senior officials about the incident and on their direction, police rushed to the spot. They rounded up transport owner Vikrant Choudhary and his aide Vikas Jain on charges of attacking the team.
The ARTO have lodged a case of attempt to kidnapping,  threatening and creating hindrance in discharging duties against the accused at the Pallavpuram police station. Ashutosh Kumar, the PRO to SSP,  has confirmed arrests.
In another incident, a team of electricity department was attacked by residents of Malliagar in Lisari Gate area. The team of electricity department had gone for inspection after receiving complaints of power theft. The residents resisted them when the team detected power theft.
PRO to MD Paschim Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd, HN Singh, said the team detected power theft in the area and junior engineer Virendra Kumar has lodged a complaint against some residents on charges of rioting, hindrance in discharging official duty and issuing threats to life.
The residents accused the team members of misbehaving with women and also staged a dharna outside Lisari Gate police station.
