Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Thursday said the final budget of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was passed in the House with a focus on development, making the city clean, welfare of the youth and establishing a solid health and education system.

According to Shelly Oberoi, Rs 1,000 crore has been allocated to the maintenance of roads, Rs 400 crore for waste management, Rs 500 crore for the development of the wards while Rs 1,500 will be given by the Delhi government to take care of salaries of teachers, while Rs 15 crore has been allocated for the betterment of cow shelters in the city.

Oberoi said for the first time a budget was passed which lays emphasis on making the city clean.

There will be double entry accrual accounting for transparency into the finances of the MCD.

The MCD will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the maintenance of the roads, the Mayor said, adding that the civic body will put an end to illegal parking in the city.

The final budget was presented by the leader of the house and passed in the MCD, albeit in absence of the Commissioner.

A total income of Rs 15,686.99 crore and expenditure of Rs 16,683.01 was approved by the House for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
