Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh on Friday dismissed the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) allegations regarding the Bhalswa landfill site as “completely false, misleading, and politically motivated.”
Speaking to reporters, the mayor said the allegations were intended to mislead Delhi residents and grab headlines rather than address genuine environmental concerns.

Singh assured that all operations at the Bhalswa landfill are being conducted in full compliance with the directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Ministry of Environment, using scientific methods.
“There is no question of dumping waste in residential areas,” he emphasised, adding that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has no connection with any illegal waste disposal activities.
The mayor highlighted that the landfill processes thousands of tonnes of waste daily through bio-mining, adhering strictly to environmental norms.
Advanced machinery, including newly installed trommel machines, has accelerated waste processing. So far, over seven million tonnes of waste have been treated at Bhalswa.
Looking ahead, Singh announced plans to establish four new solid waste processing plants with a combined capacity of 5,100 metric tonnes per day, at an estimated cost of ₹361.42 crore.
Once operational, these plants will eliminate the need for dumping new waste at existing landfill sites within approximately six months.
He also criticised the AAP for turning waste management into a political issue over the past decade, contrasting it with the BJP and MCD’s efforts at the grassroots level.
“If any private contractor or individual is found dumping waste illegally, strict action will be taken,” the mayor warned, directing officers to report any violations immediately.
Mayor Singh concluded by urging AAP leaders to present facts to the public instead of indulging in “political drama,” reiterating his administration’s commitment to making Delhi garbage-free and ensuring full compliance with environmental regulations.
