Mamata makes medical reshuffle

Mamata Banerjee also announced plans to recruit 89,000 teachers soon

In a major reshuffle in the state medical education services (MES) of the health department led by the chief minister Miss Mamata Banerjee Dr Ajoy Roy, director cum principal of the Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research (IPGME&R) as well SSKM Medical College Hospital, has been transferred to the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH) as principal.

Dr Monimoy Bandyopadhya, super of the SSKM, will replace Dr Roy.

The state health department has issued an order on Friday reshuffling the posts of principals and superintendents of several existing government teaching hospitals and medical institutes like SSKM, CNMCH, Medical College Hospital (MCH), Infectious Disease in Beliaghata, B C Roy Memorial Hospital for Children etc.

The department has also appointed principals and superintendents of five new medical colleges coming up inside the premises of existing government district and state general hospitals in Diamond Harbour, Purulia, Rampurhat, Raiganj and Cooch Behar.

“We have to submit a report giving details of teaching faculties including names of principals and superintendents of the five new medical colleges to the Medical Council of India (MCI) requesting its approval for admissions in the first year undergraduate MBBS courses in these institutes from the coming academic session 2018-2019 beginning in September. As per the MCI rules, every new college must submit this report to the council by 7 July,” a senior official said.
