The electorate of the national capital will vote in the Lok Sabha elections in a single phase on May 25, according to the poll schedule announced by the Election Commission on Saturday.

As per the poll body’s announcement, the results of the Lok Sabha elections will be declared on June 4.

All the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi were captured by the BJP in the 2014 and 2019 polls.

However, for the upcoming elections, the saffron party has not given tickets to six of its sitting MPs, only retaining Manoj Tiwari from the North East Delhi seat. Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir decided not to contest again and conveyed his decision to the party leadership.

It was just a couple of days ago the BJP announced its candidates for two seats–East Delhi and North-West–fielding Harsh Malhotra and Yogendra Chandolia respectively.

Singer Hansraj Hans has also not been given the ticket this time from the North- West Delhi seat, which is in the reserved category.

The saffron party has fielded Sushma Swaraj’s daughter Bansuri Swaraj from New Delhi, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from South Delhi, Kamaljeet Sehrawat from West Delhi in place of Parvesh Sahib Singh, and Praveen Khandelwal from the Chandni Chowk.

The AAP and the Congress, after drawing a blank in the last two general elections in the capital, will be contesting together against the BJP as part of the INDIA bloc with a seat-sharing ratio of 4:3, that is AAP will contest on 4 seats and the Congress three.

The Congress will contest North East Delhi, North- West Delhi and Chandni Chowk constituencies while the AAP has announced its four contenders from Delhi.

AAP has announced its 4 contenders from Delhi, that include Kuldeep Kumar, who belongs to the reserved category, but the AAP has fielded him from the East Delhi, which is a general seat, and the party is quite confident about his credibility.

They have fielded Sahiram Pehalwan from South Delhi, while Mahabal Mishra will contest from the West Delhi seat, and last but not the least, senior party leader and MLA Somnath Bharti will compete with BJP’s Bansuri Swaraj in the New Delhi parliamentary constituency.

It is going to be an interesting contest this time, as BJP has different faces on six seats, while the AAP and Congress are contesting under the alliance.

Notably, this time the AAP also has a commanding position in the MCD, which earlier was headed by the BJP with their tenure lasting for 15 years till the December 2022, when AAP came to power with 134 seats in the 250 seats civic body.
