Left Front-backed trade unions alleged that the state government is depriving the labourers of all benefits under various labour welfare schemes.

General secretary of the CITU Anadi Sahu said that the Left Front government used to provide several labour welfare schemes but the current Trinamul Congress run government only provide few labour welfare scheme but those are not being properly given to the beneficiaries.

The current state labour welfare board is running community and social education centres including reading rooms, libraries, games and sports centres.

The board also helps to organise excursion, tours and holiday homes, entertainment and other forms of recreation, corporate activities of social nature, home industries and subsidiary occupations for woman and unemployed people under its welfare activities and schemes.

But Mr Sahu alleged that a tout nexus is very much active in connivance of some government officials and have been depriving the labourers of their benefit.

“We are getting complaints from several districts that beneficiaries are running from pillar to post to get benefit. Moreover they have to pay a hefty amount to the tout for getting benefit,” he said.

Mr Sahu also alleged that even in case of critical diseases like cancer, bypass surgery or kidney transplantation, the contributors and their families members will get Rs 15,000 from the labour welfare board as subsidy but they rarely get the payment.

Left Front backed trade unions will also launch movement in the state on 30 April regarding this issue. “All the district administrative headquarters including district magistrate offices, labour welfare board office and other offices will be gheraoed on that day. Left Front back trade unions, including CITU, AITUC, TUCC, AICCTU, UTUC, TUCC and others, will participate in the protest meeting against “not providing the benefits of the factory labourers and daily wage earners.”

on Thursday, all Left Front back trade unions organised a protest march against privatisation of the Public Sector Unit (PSU) in the state.

They demanded that the state government must inform the trade unions’ members about the current condition of Dunlop and Jessop factories.
