According to the reports coming from Kolkata, at least two persons died and 15 others sustained serious injuries following a stampede on a footbridge at Santragachhi junction in Howrah.
“Two persons have died and 12 others injured in the incident. One person is critical,” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said. The injured include two children, police said.
The incident occurred around 6 pm on Tuesday.

The stampede occurred when the commuters hurriedly tried to cross the foot overbridge between two platforms following an announcement of two trains coming simultaneously on two adjacent tracks.
“14 injured in a stampede at 6 pm today following heavy rush of passengers on a footbridge at Santragachhi junction in Howrah,” said CPRO South Eastern Railways Soumitra Majumdar.
According to ANI, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh to the injured.
