Surjapur to get new police outpost after Baruipur rape-murder case
Suvendu Adhikari had said that the decision to establish a police outpost at Surjapur was in response to the demands of the survivor's family.
With the new outpost becoming operational, local residents will be able to file written complaints at Surjapur itself.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to inaugurate a police outpost at Baruipur in West Bengal’s South 24-Parganas district four days after assuring the family of the minor girl allegedly raped and murdered at Baruipur that such a facility would be set up.
The Chief Minister had visited the bereaved family on Tuesday following the incident.

During the meeting, the family expressed concern over security in the locality and requested the establishment of a permanent police outpost. Adhikari assured them that the demand would be taken up with the state administration immediately.

Official sources mentioned that the Chief Minister had directed the Director General of Police and the home secretary to ensure that the outpost became operational at the earliest, even if it required functioning initially from a rented building.
Preparatory work began within hours of his visit and the outpost is now ready for inauguration.
Sources said Adhikari has a 45-minute programme at Surjapur on Saturday. He is expected to reach the victim’s residence around 11.30 a.m. to meet her family once again. He will then visit the family of Indrajit Mondal, who was killed in mob violence following the recovery of the girl’s body, before formally inaugurating the new police outpost and returning to Kolkata.
Although Surjapur already has a temporary police camp, it has been used primarily for maintaining law and order. Residents have so far been required to travel nearly 10 km to Baruipur police station to lodge complaints or seek police assistance.
With the new outpost becoming operational, local residents will be able to file written complaints at Surjapur itself, while preliminary investigations into criminal cases can also be initiated from the facility.
Police sources said the outpost would have a larger deployment of officers and personnel than the existing camp, enabling more effective patrolling, quicker emergency response and improved crime prevention in the area. The alleged rape and murder of the minor has triggered widespread public outrage across the state.
A key accused, Prabhas Mondal, was killed in a police encounter late Tuesday night after he was taken to Surjapur for reconstruction of the crime scene. Police claimed he attempted to snatch a firearm from an officer and opened fire while trying to escape, forcing the police to retaliate. The remaining accused in the case continue to remain in police custody.
