The student further alleged that she was sexually assaulted while she was in an inebriated state. When she regained consciousness, she felt unwell and insisted on returning home. She later went back to her residence.

The family said the girl narrated the entire episode to them subsequently. Based on a written complaint lodged at Lake Town police station, police registered a case, launched an investigation, and subsequently arrested him.

On Sunday, the tutor was produced before the Bidhannagar court. Police informed the court that an investigation into the matter has begun and sought the accused’s custody for further interrogation. While being taken to court, the accused denied the allegations. He claimed that he had been falsely implicated in the case.

Officers said the victim has undergone a medical examination and her statement has been recorded. The drink that was allegedly given to her has been sent for forensic testing. Police are also examining call records and other evidence to corroborate the sequence of events.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Senior police officers said the probe will focus on establishing the circumstances that led to the incident, including how the student was allegedly administered the substance and the events that followed.

Police said they are providing necessary support to the victim and her family. They added that the investigation is being conducted on priority and that further arrests, if required, will be made based on evidence that emerges.
