Investigaros are examining whether the properties were purchased from individuals, the amounts paid, and the source of the funds used for such payments.
Police sources said the recovered documents include land and flat ownership records, and efforts are now underway to determine the actual ownership of these properties.
Investigating officers said verification of the value, location and associated documents of the recovered properties has already begun.
Authorities may also examine the financial transactions linked to the assets, including details of previous owners, whether the properties were sold, and the amount involved in such deals.
Police officials stated that the recovered property documents are being treated as important evidence in the ongoing investigation against Jahangir Khan. All documents will be thoroughly examined before further legal action is taken.
Jahangir Khan and his wife have been arrested in separate cases. While Jahangir is in judicial custody, his wife is in police custody.
Jahangir, a close aide of TMC All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee was accused in multiple cases, including extortion and intimidation. The self acclaimed ‘Pushpa’ was arrested earlier this month from the Nepal border.
His wife Regina was arrested by Diamond Harbour Police District after allegations that she attempted to create unrest at a police station while trying to secure her husband’s release.
Jahangir had been nominated by the TMC as its candidate from Falta for the 2026 assembly elections but two days before the polls, Jahangir withdrew from the electoral contest.
There were allegations of irregularities on polling day which forced the Election Commission to order a re-election.
Amid these developments, BJP leader Bidhan Parui had submitted a written complaint at the Falta Police Station accusing Jahangir of acquiring massive assets through illegal means and engaging in unlawful financial transactions.
Complaints were also reportedly sent to the Superintendent of Police of Diamond Harbour Police District and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The complainant alleged that Jahangir and his family amassed enormous wealth within a short period and claimed that the assets were illegally acquired.
Jahangir rose to prominence in South 24 Parganas politics around two years after the TMC first came to power in West Bengal. He served as the head of Belsingha Gram Panchayat in Falta between 2013 and 2018 before becoming president of the Falta Panchayat Samiti.
Since 2023, he had been serving as the Public Works Karmadhyaksha of the district council. The BJP has alleged that Jahangir’s assets increased alongside his growing political influence.
