In a unique community policing intiative stepping beyond its usual role, the Purba Medinipur district police has launched a dedicated mobile application aimed at connecting educated unemployed youth directly with private companies, promising appointment letters to 1,000 women in the first phase itself.

The initiative, named Police Assistance in Career and Employment Enhancement (PACE), has been launched by the district police with support from the state government to create a direct link between job seekers and private employers.

Papia Sultana, Superintendent of Police, Purba Medinipur announced the programme at a press conference on Monday, describing it as an effort to address unemployment through technology-driven intervention.

The district police have already tied up with 28 private companies, while discussions are underway with several more firms expected to join the platform.

Through the PACE app, companies will post details of available vacancies, including educational qualifications, salary, nature of work, place of posting and other recruitment-related information.

Eligible candidates will be able to apply directly through the application without the involvement of intermediaries.

The first phase of online applications will be accepted between 21 and 31 July. Verification of documents and interviews will be conducted from 1 to 10 August. If the process proceeds as scheduled, appointment letters will be distributed before Independence Day.

In the initial phase of the programme, only women aged 18 years and above with Madhyamik or higher educational qualifications will be eligible to apply. The police said around 1,000 women are expected to receive appointment letters during August.

Although the initiative is primarily meant for unemployed youth from West Midnapore, candidates from other districts who are currently residing in the district will also be eligible to register and apply through the app.

“The companies associated with the platform have assured us that 80 to 90 per cent of the jobs will be offered to local candidates. They have also committed that at least 30 per cent of the total recruitment will be reserved for women,” Sultana said.

Officials said the initiative is expected to create a sustainable employment network by providing verified job opportunities on a single digital platform and strengthening the connection between local industry and educated unemployed youth.
