KMC gears up to complete repair works at Garden Reach water plant

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) goes on war footing to complete repair works at the Garden Reach water treatment plant after a motor pump exploded inside the area recently.

The mayor, Mr Sovan Chatterjee, on Wednesday said: “Repair works are on at the treatment plant. Installation of one pump has been completed on Wednesday while another two are yet to be installed.”

“The explosion of the motor pump had made a considerable damage to several parts inside the treatment plant. Some of the valves need to be replaced,” he added In addition to these, the KMC will also be rewarding the civic body workers who went inside the 20 feet deep water to fix the snag.

Other KMC and fire department workers, who acted promptly in the crucial time, will also be rewarded. Speaking on the issue, Mr Chatterjee said: “The divers who went deep inside the water will be rewarded with Rs 25000, while other workers who acted promptly during the situation which includes personnel from fire department and KMC will be rewarded with Rs 5000.”

On another note, speaking on the issue of Unit Area Assessment (UAA), the mayor said that the UAA form submission date will be extended for another six months.

A meeting for the purpose will be held on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Self Assessment Return Preparators will soon visit homes from next month to help citizens fill the Self Assessment Form for the purpose.
