Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has welcomed the conviction of Tahir Hussain in the Delhi riots case, saying that the verdict marks an important step towards justice for the families who lost their loved ones and endured immense suffering during the 2020 violence.

Gupta said the Aam Aadmi Party leadership must explain its political association and patronage of a person who has been found guilty of instigating the Delhi riots, murder and widespread violence that had disturbed the peace of the city.

She said that during the 2020 North- East Delhi riots, the city had witnessed a horrific phase of violence, stone-pelting and lawlessness, in which many people lost their lives, and numerous families were affected.

Gupta further stated that those events continue to leave several unanswered questions in the minds of the people of the national capital.

The Chief Minister said there must be accountability to the people of Delhi and that those responsible for the riots should be punished in accordance with the law.

She said that ensuring justice for the victims and preventing such incidents in the future remain her government’s priorities.

Meanwhile, Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra also hit out at AAP and Kejriwal, asking why the AAP chief had not given even a single statement after the murder of IB officer Ankit Sharma.

He also alleged that following the 2020 riots, when the AAP government was in power, the relief camps were set up only at places where people from a particular community lived.

Delhi BJP chief Harsh Malhotra had also welcomed Hussain’s conviction and alleged that AAP had a strong bond with several anti-national activists, which has been exposed time and again in the form of people like Tahir Hussain in the 2020 North-East Delhi riots.
