Karnal selected for European Union project

Karnal in Haryana is among the four cities of the country which have been selected by the European Union for a project named ‘Promotion of Inclusive, Sustainable Growth and Diversity to Strengthen Local Governments’.

The other cities are Warangal of Telangana, Ajmer of Rajasthan and Jabalpur of Madhya Pradesh. Giving details, the Municipal Commissioner, Karnal, Priyanka Soni said under this project, surveys would be conducted on how to manage open spaces in Warangal, simplification of public

transport facility in Karnal, solid waste management in Ajmer and sewerage facility in Jabalpur. Soni said the project manager of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiation (ICLEI), South Asia, Narender Kumar, had conducted a survey on mobility sector in ward number 11 of Karnal.

In the survey, women, students, senior citizens and shopkeepers were contacted separately to get information related to the problems they faced pertaining to transportation and their possible solutions, she added.
