On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood urged citizens to view civic responsibility as a form of patriotism. “Not everyone needs to go to the battlefield to serve the country,” he said, emphasizing that actions such as keeping one’s surroundings clean, following traffic rules, and protecting public property are equally vital for the nation’s progress.

Paying tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil War, Sood on Saturday participated in an event organised by Shivaji College, University of Delhi, which honoured bravehearts including Captain Sumit Roy, Captain Hanif-ud-Din, and Captain Anuj Nayyar — all alumni of the college.

In his address, the minister recalled the courage and sacrifice of these young soldiers, calling them symbols of leadership and gallantry. “Despite severe injuries, they destroyed enemy bunkers one after another and ensured that the Tricolour was proudly hoisted on the peaks,” he added.
