Contract labourers who have been retrenched continued to protest in front of IFFCO plant gate for the seventh day on Tuesday.
The labourers who belong to land loser families of Santra, Chakradharpur of Jagatsinghpur district and Chanda of Kendrapara district had given their land to Oswal Chemical and Fertilizers Ltd in which 73 youths of these land loser families had got appointment at Oswal Company in 1998.
Later Oswal Company had been sold its factory to IFFCO Company in 2005. IFFCO had cut down the workforce and in the process these workers had lost their jobs.
Since 28 March, irate contract labourers have launched a sit in dharna. They noted that in September 2017 IFFCO authorities were asked by the administration to give employment opportunity to nearly 73 retrenched workers within four months.
But the company failed to do so. On Tuesday, irate women of these families conducted a puja of Maa Mangala in front of IFFCO gate and sought her blessings to carry forward the agitation.
