The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday filed a charge sheet against former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and several officials in connection with the Manesar land `scam’.

The agency submitted an 8,000-page charge sheet before the special CBI court in Panchkula against Hooda and 33 others, including government officials who were posted at the Haryana CM’s office and state’s Town and Country Planning Department during the previous government’s term.

It is alleged that the nearly 400 acres of prime land in Manesar, Naurangpur and Lakhnoula in Gurgaon was acquired at throwaway prices from farmers between 27 August 2004 and 24 August 2007 in a well-planned conspiracy, involving an acquisition threat.

During the Hooda-led Congress regime in Haryana, the state government had issued a notification for acquisition of land measuring about 912 acres for setting up an Industrial Model Township (IMT) in these villages.Fearing acquisition, the villagers sold off nearly 400 acres of land to private builders at low prices. It was alleged that the market value of the land was about Rs 1,600 crore but it was purchased by private builders for only about Rs 100 crore.

After the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in Haryana, a case was registered.
