Harish Rawat calls the party lazy, lacking the hunger to win
The Congress veteran, however, exuded confidence that this time, the party would improve its performance in Uttarakhand with a minimum of two wins.
It may be only natural for Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat to believe in supernatural things, but it seems to have cost him dearly.
Belief in superstitions forced Rawat to consult astrologers regularly. Even prominent astrologer Bejan Daruwalla visited Dehradun twice, claimed to be at the request of Rawat, and every time he predicted, “Harish Rawat will become Chief Minister again.” The CM was much amused with the prediction. Now where is Bejan Daruwalla? Nobody knows!
When Rawat was to prove his trust vote in the state assembly, after nine Congress leaders revolted against him, he entered the house by carrying rice grains on closed palm from some Hindu spiritual leader. Harish made the Bijapur guest house his official residence and did not moved to the official Chief Minister residence on suspicion. He considered the CM residence inauspicious and strongly believed that those dwelling there never complete full term in CM office.

Rawat developed this belief after seeing the early exit of Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, BC Khanduri and Vijay Bahuguna from the CM office.
Besides stressing big emphasis on supernatural things, Rawat was fearful of his seniors in the party. After making failed efforts to topple ND Tiwari from Chief Minister seat, Rawat used the same trick against Vijay Bahuguna. Even after succeeding Bahuguna, the insecurity complex failed to end and Harish created such situation that all the senior Congress leaders were forced to leave the party.
Most of the Congress rebels were successful in winning their seats for the BJP.
Rawat lost from both Kiccha and Haridwar seats. The loss has landed the Chief Minister in greater insecurity.
