The air quality in Greater Noida on Tuesday witnessed a huge dip with AQI readings falling in the ‘severe’ category. At 454, with PM10 as the primary pollutant, the city recorded the poorest air in the country, according to the data of Central Pollution Control Board.

As per CPCB’s classification, an AQI between 400 and 500 is considered ‘severe’, posing health risks even to healthy individuals and causing serious respiratory issues among those with pre-existing conditions.
Foul air was also recorded in the other areas in the national capital region, including Ghaziabad and Noida. Ghaziabad was a close second with AQI readings touching 434 on Tuesday, remaining in the ‘severe’ category for three consecutive days, while Noida’s values at 390 hovered in ‘very poor’ air.
The national capital also witnessed a surge in the pollution load. On Tuesday, the AQI values for Delhi touched 374, up from Monday’s readings of 351. Despite the increase in air quality readings, the stubble burning contribution to the city’s PM 2.5 load declined, according to government data.
The Decision Support System (DSS) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) on Tuesday reported a 5.37 percent contribution to the city’s PM 2.5 load, a sharp decline from Monday’s 16.13 percent. Meanwhile, at 18.15 per cent, emissions from the Transport sector were the single largest contributor to the city’s foul air.
