Delhi Minister Ashish Sood said on Tuesday that the government is working at multiple levels, under the leadership Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, to bring the city out of the pollution menace and ensure a clean, safe and green capital.

The government as well as the society and every citizen will have to work together to transform Delhi from a ‘gas chamber “to a’ green capital”, he said.

The minister, who planted a teak sapling in the name of his mother Sushila Devi on Tuesday under “Ek ped Maa ke Naam – 2.0′ as part of the Van Mahotsav being run by the Delhi government, said It is not just a celebration of planting trees, but a symbol of our joint responsibility towards our mother earth.

He said it is a pledge to give life to the coming generations and a resolution through which the gift of life and greenery will be carried on to the future generations.

Sood said “Ek ped Maa ke Naam” is a visionary initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reflects his fondness for nature, and the same is deeply connected with our culture, emotions and the environment.

In a scathing attack on the previous governments over the environmental imbalance in Delhi, Sood alleged that in the last 27 years, no government thought of how to provide clean air to the people of the city, while they were only misled in the name of pollution control.

The minister added that from small children to the elderly, everyone was facing a serious problem of pollution.

Sood informed that the tree plantation in Delhi is being done with the thought that the future of the people of Delhi can be better, and added that the government has set a huge target of planting 70 lakh saplings this year.

He also appealed to the people to pay attention to the conservation of plants along with planting them.
