Goa Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza on Saturday retained the Mapusa assembly seat in North Goa, defeating his nearest Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party rival Vinod Phadke by 6,828 votes.
This is the sixth consecutive time that D'Souza has won the Mapusa assembly seat and he is the seniormost elected BJP legislator in the state.

Addressing a press conference on Census 2027 in New Delhi, Narayan said the world's largest census will be conducted in two phases, with the first phase beginning on 1 April 2026.
Minors have come forward alleging that Soham Naik, son of a South Goa BJP councillor, manipulated, abused, and blackmailed them. The case is now with the Crime Branch, with POCSO and IT Act provisions invoked.
