Election officials pedal to push up voting figures in Himachal

To encourage voting for the ensuing Assembly elections, the Shimla district administration officials along with the public, held a cycle rally at the Ridge on Wednesday.

The cycle rally was organised with an objective to sensitise voters for using their franchise in the Assembly elections that are scheduled to be held later in 2017.

District election officer-cum Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shimla, Rohan Chand Thakur who also took part in the rally, said that the motive of the rally was to spread the message of maximum participation of voters for the forthcoming election of Vidhan Sabha.

Among the 60 participants who took part in the rally, 25 were foreign tourists, he added.

He disclosed that the rally is the part of Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activity in which district administration has started ‘Go Blue’ and ‘Baltantra’ campaign to sensitise the people for their voting right and commitment to strengthened democracy.

So far more than 7,650 women have joined the ‘Go Blue’ campaign for women in Shimla district to ensure their active participation in the voting awareness activities.

Rohan Chand Thakur said that the district administration through ‘Baltantra’ is reaching out to the students in the schools and other educational institutions to disseminate the information about the importance of voting so that they can motivate their parents to vote and ensure their participation.

He said that the administration’s endeavour is to provide information about the importance of voting to people through sweep activities and motivate them to vote. For this, activities are being organised by the district administration at the level of Panchayat level, he added.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shimla Rakesh Kumar Prajapati, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Law and Order Hemis Negi, Assistant Commissioner (AC) to DC Jyoti Rana, SDM Urben Ajit Bhardwaj and other officers of district administration also participated in the cycle rally.
