Education must amalgamate intellect with sensitivity: Meira Kumar

Former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar joined the celebration of the Delhi Schools’ Literacy Project (DSLP) here on Monday and said that education should “amalgamate intellect with sensitivity”.

Addressing the function of the Literacy Week-2017 organised by Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan, Meira termed education as a “vehicle of social change” and lauded DSLP for “brightening the world with the lamp of literacy”.

The 72-year-old politician, as the chief guest of the function, also suggested that education today should amalgamate intellect with sensitivity for a better tomorrow and urged the students to serve their elders, renounce dowry, dismantle caste system and be respectful to all religions.

The Literacy Week marked the celebration of 29 glorious years of DSLP that brings schools and community together every year and motivates them to work collectively towards the goal of an inclusive, integrated and socially just society.

Highlighting that the work of eradicating literacy from Delhi state carries on unabated, school Principal Jyoti Bose said: “Our spirit grows from strength to strength with more and more schools joining the movement.”

Advisor and founder of DSLP, Rajni Kumar expressed her satisfaction on making 15,500 learners of Delhi literate and complimented the student volunteers for thinking beyond themselves.

Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan was presented with the MP Mathrani Trophy for excellence in the Literacy Week in South-East Zone. In North-West Zone, the trophy was won by Springdales School, Pusa Road.

Manav Sthali School, New Rajinder Nagar, won the SM Arya Memorial trophy, while the Henry Selz Trophy was given to Dev Samaj Modern School, Nehru Nagar, for maximum interaction between the school and the community.

For the best street theatre, the Laxman Aggarwal Trophy in North-West Zone was presented to Guru Teg Bahadur 3rd Centenary Public School, Mansarovar Garden. And Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, bagged the HL Verma Memorial Trophy for the best street theatre in South East Zone.

The Sri Ram Jolly Memorial Trophy for the Best Group Song went to New Era Public School, Maya Puri. OSA Living Is Giving Trophy was awarded to Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan.
