The BJP Delhi spokesperson said the locals are complaining that due to clogged sewers across the narrow lanes, the excess water, especially during rains, likely causes damage to the foundations of the buildings that are quite old, resulting in the incident.
Secondly, he said that based on another view point into the cave-in incident, as per locals, it is suspected that there was a dried up well beneath the shop, and sewer water may have seeped in through weakened foundations into it, ending up in the floor collapse.
The BJP leader has urged minister Parvesh Verma who is in- charge for the Delhi Jal Board, to ensure proper maintenance of the entire sewerage network in Old Delhi and also introduce a comprehensive Sewer Master Plan for the city so that in future such incidents and other problems do not take place.
