Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said on Thursday that while his party is committed to women’s empowerment and strengthening development at the ward level, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), by suspending three women councilors, including Sultana Abad, once again demonstrated that Arvind Kejriwal has been anti-women in the past and remains so in the present.
Kapoor alleged that the AAP chief compelled the three councillors, including Sultana Abad, to quit the AAP merely for questioning him and Saurabh Bhardwaj over the Municipal Corporation’s paralysis between 2022 and 2025, and perhaps for prioritizing their wards’ development over party dictates.

He further said that Kejriwal allegedly forced Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal out of the party for raising questions.
The Delhi BJP spokesperson also alleged that much earlier, the AAP chief similarly compelled prominent women leaders like Kiran Bedi, Shazia Ilmi, Richa Pandey among others to leave his party for asserting their rights and expressing independent views.
Last week the Indraprastha Vikas Party, which emerged after 16 municipal councilors parted ways with the AAP last year, formally merged with the BJP along with its councilors, further strengthening the saffron party in the civic body.
Goyal had said when the AAP formed the Municipal Corporation government in 2023, it turned out to be a dark chapter with no development work undertaken and the administration confined to political statements.
