Wrestling is one of the most popular sports when it comes to the villages of Delhi and Haryana, and the practice of organizing local competitions or “Dangals” on festivals like Holi, Hariyali Teej and others has been a tradition in the national capital’s rural belt, and is something that the locals cherish.
Carrying on with the tradition, on Hariyali Teej this year, a big competition was organized in South West Delhi’s Palam village at the 1400 years old Dada Dev Mandir’s Mela Ground, where known wrestlers from the region took part, coming from different age groups, and displayed their wrestling skills.

On this occasion, South Delhi MP Ramveer Singh Bidhuri was the chief guest, and apart from him, guests included local MLA Kuldeep Solanki, and former MLA Vijay Lochav and others.
Handsome cash prizes were given to the winners in the ‘Dangal,’ while to promote the sporting spirit and the sport amongst the youth, the jury also distributed prizes to the participants, along with other incentives.
Speaking on the occasion, Palam 360 Khap chief Surender Solanki shared that the temple is about 1400 years old and Palam village has a very glorious history which can never be forgotten.
He mentioned that for the past several years, a huge ‘Kushti Dangal’ is held here every year on Hariyali Teej and many international wrestlers have emerged from here.
Large number of spectators, especially coming from the national capital’s rural belt, comprising 360 villages thronged the iconic mela ground of the Dada Dev Maharaj temple, who is a revered saint, also the ‘Gram Devta’ of villages around Palam, in South West Delhi.
