It was the Northern Range of the Special Cell that identified a criminal, who had recently joined Hashim Baba gang and absconded in a gunshot.

Finally, on February 15, the team received a specific input that the wanted criminal was arriving in Delhi with a motive to execute a person.

The Special Cell team accordingly laid a trap and nabbed Sohib, recovering a pistol from his possession, also saving the life of the target he was about to allegedly kill.

According to police, Sohib is a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha, and later on with the information provided by the accused, further continuing its efforts the special cell team also succeeded in arresting Akram Ali, who was involved in supplying the weapon to Sohib.

Akram ALi, the gun runner belongs to Jeevangarh, Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.

The police have registered a case against the accused persons under relevant sections of the law.

Sohib Qureshi is a school dropout who studied up to Class 8th, and later indulged in street crimes after he dropped studies.

It was back in 2023, Sohib’s younger brother was stabbed to death in Jahangirpuri, and he suspected one Sumit behind the conspiracy of his brother’s murder.

In a bid to take revenge, he started developing contacts with criminals and procured firearms.

He started following criminal gangs on social media and posted his stories with weapons, the police said.

In September 2023, he along with two of his associates fired shots at Sumit, but he survived the attack.

However, Sohib and his associates uploaded the CCTV footage of the firing on social media for dominance in the area, while he absconded from the area and in between joined the Hashim Baba gang, the police said.

The second accused Akram has previous criminal involvements such as attempt to murder, riot and cases of Arms Act.
