Delhi minister joins Ring Road cleanliness drive

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood on Tuesday joined a cleanliness drive under the Ring Road flyover in front of Rajdhani College, where municipal workers and volunteers cleared garbage, debris, and stones that had been lying for years.

The drive was part of Seva Pakhwada, a fortnight-long campaign being observed nationwide from September 17 to October 2 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.

Sood said the Delhi government aims to make the Ring Road and adjoining areas cleaner and more presentable ahead of the festival season. He added that cleanliness should not be a one-day activity but part of everyday life.

Hundreds of volunteers, including residents from the Janakpuri Assembly constituency, participated in the exercise, according to officials.

During the campaign, the minister also outlined government initiatives being carried out under Seva Pakhwada, such as upgrading hospitals, expanding dialysis facilities, deploying quick-reaction vehicles at fire stations, and renovating bus depots.

At the site, Sood asked police and municipal officials to step up patrolling to prevent illegal encroachments and suggested planting trees and shrubs to improve the area’s appearance. He linked cleanliness to public health, urging citizens to maintain hygiene in their surroundings to reduce the spread of disease.
