Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, while emphasizing the importance of artificial rain for combating air pollution in the national capital on Friday, said cloud seeding is going to be conducted to assess how useful the process could be in addressing the problem.
Since the experiment is being carried out for the first time, the government wants to conduct it earnestly hoping that it will prove helpful in controlling the pollution during the winters.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event here, the chief minister said with the blessings of the citizens of Delhi, the cloud seeding experiment is expected to be successful.
If the experiment turns out to be successful, it can be used to deal with the environmental challenge in the future, she added.
On Thursday night, taking to social media platform X, Gupta shared that preparations have been completed for conducting artificial rain through cloud seeding techniques for the first time in Delhi.
She said experts conducted a trial run of the process over the Burari area of North West Delhi. Now, the cloud seeding can be done around October 29, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a likelihood of presence of the appropriate clouds for the experiment. “If conditions are suitable, the national capital shall experience its first artificial rain,” Gupta said.
This initiative is not only historic, from the technology point of view, for the city but is also going to establish a scientific method for addressing the pollution issue in Delhi.
