Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday inaugurated a 500 kW solar power plant at the Air Force and Naval Officers Enclave in Sector 7, Dwarka, under the Palam Assembly constituency.
The plant will meet the electricity needs of nearly 375 households in the enclave through clean and renewable energy. It also marks an important step towards promoting green energy in the national capital.

South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Palam MLA Kuldeep Solanki, former MLA Dharam Dev Solanki, along with several distinguished citizens and senior officials, were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is steadily moving towards becoming a global leader in the field of solar energy.
She said solar power is being promoted across the country on a large scale to achieve the goals of energy self-reliance, environmental conservation and sustainable development.
The Chief Minister added that the Delhi government is equally committed to promoting clean and green energy across the capital.
She said the Delhi government is encouraging households to adopt rooftop solar systems by providing a combined subsidy of more than Rs 1 lakh under the schemes of the Central and Delhi governments.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to switch to solar energy to reduce their electricity bills while also contributing to environmental conservation.
She said the 500 kW solar power plant is among the largest residential solar projects in the capital.
Built at a cost of nearly Rs 2 crore, the project has received a subsidy of Rs 90 lakh from the Central Government and Rs 10 lakh from the Delhi Government.
With the plant becoming operational, the enclave’s monthly electricity expenditure is expected to decline from around Rs 12 lakh to nearly Rs 6 lakh, resulting in annual savings of about Rs 72 lakh.
The Chief Minister said the project is not only a means of saving energy but also an excellent example of a community’s collective responsibility towards environmental conservation.
Appreciating the residents of the Air Force and Naval Officers Enclave, she said the officers, who have dedicated themselves to the service of the nation, have set an inspiring example for society by adopting clean energy in their residential complex.
She said the Delhi government aims to transform the capital into a clean, green and energy-efficient city. To achieve this, the government is promoting solar energy, energy efficiency and environmentally friendly technologies.
The Chief Minister said the project would inspire other residential societies, institutions and commercial establishments, giving fresh momentum to the expansion of solar energy across Delhi.
