A day before the crucial RK Nagar bypoll in Tamil Nadu, a member from the TTV Dhinakaran camp has released a video of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the hospital.

The video shows a frail-looking Jayalalithaa on a bed, sipping something from a glass using a straw with eyes glued on something in front of her, presumably a TV. She has an IV drip attached to her right hand.

The Sasikala faction on Wednesday said that they did not want any speculations regarding the death of the former Tamil Nadu chief minister.  According to the statement made by a party member, the video was made by Sasikala after she paid a visit to ailing Jayalalithaa in the ICU.

The special adviser to the then chief minister J Jayalalithaa, Sheela Balakrishnan will on Wednesday appear before Justice Arumugasaamy Commission.  Balakrishnan was in charge of running the Tamil Nadu government when the former chief minister was hospitalised.

Soon after Jayalalithaa’s death, Balakrishnan resigned from her post and O Panneerselvam was sworn-in as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, after opposition factions raised a hue and cry over the release of the video ahead of polling, claiming that it was violation of the model code of conduct, the Election Commission has issued directions to stop circulation of the video.
