In the video, the couple, along with their friends, were barred at the restaurant’s gate for wearing ethnic outfits. The man has explained why they were not allowed to enter and how the restaurant allowed others in western outfits and ‘skin-showing dresses.’
The man in the video told the viewers, “The restaurant denied entry to us and allowed other people who were wearing shorts. They said that they won’t allow an Indian ethnic dress code.”
Another person who recorded the video said, “This restaurant only allows customers who show their legs. If our president or the chief ministers of Delhi, who themselves are women, visit here in a saree, will they be stopped from entering the premises?”
Kapil Mishra, Tourism and Culture Minister, said on X, “After the video spread online, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta took to her X and wrote, ‘A video of a ban on Indian dress at a restaurant in Pitampura has come to light. CM Gupta has taken a serious note.’ Officers have been instructed to investigate and take serious action against it.”
Adding to his statement further, Mishra asserted that the incident is unacceptable and that Delhi will not accept such behaviour.
However, the restaurant has issued an apology after the incident. They said there would not be any restrictions on dress in the future, and have also offered Raksha Bandhan discounts for women wearing Indian attire.
