Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday demanded an inquiry into the AAP’s claims about the ‘Phansi Ghar’ on the Delhi Assembly premises and called for recovering every penny spent on its renovation.

“Mr. Kejriwal’s actions, including his gestures, attire, and statements, were carefully planned for political gain, and he misled people by projecting a false image of honesty, patriotism, and sacrifice,” the chief minister stated.

Speaking in the assembly, CM Gupta urged the Assembly Speaker, along with the House, to promptly remove the misleading “Phansi Ghar” signage from the assembly premises.

Emphasising that the correction is particularly important before the ‘All India Speakers’ Conference, scheduled for August 24-25, to ensure that visiting dignitaries are not presented with a distorted version of history and to maintain the Delhi Assembly’s reputation, she said.

Backing CM Gutpa’s claim, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta stated, “According to official maps and records from the National Archives, the so-called ‘Phansi Ghar’ was a tiffin room with a pulley-operated lift.”

Speaker Gupta alleged, “There is no historical proof that this was an execution site. Even the tunnel-to-Red Fort claim is false.”

Clarifying that, when the Delhi Assembly building was constructed, there was no tunnel connecting the premises to the Red Fort, he mentioned.

The ruling party alleged the opposition was distorting history and deceiving the public with false claims.

On this, BJP MLA Ajay Mahawar demanded a censure motion against Arvind Kejriwal, while others sought an apology from the former CM.

PWD Minister Parvesh Verma claimed that the ropes and shoes discovered in the room were likely tools used by workers, rather than evidence of gallows.

Countering the allegations, Leader of Opposition Atishi accused the ruling party of diverting attention from key issues, saying the debate in the room was a waste of time. Jarnail Singh also defended AAP’s stance, referencing ChatGPT.

Further questioning the ruling party, she asked, “Is this really what the Assembly should be discussing, instead of schools, hospitals, and law and order?”
