According to the Chief Minister, the initiative aims not only to enhance Delhi’s visual appeal but also to ensure citizens’ safety.
Sharing details about the project, CM Gupta said that approximately 5,500 families residing in the BH Block Janta Flats of Shalimar Bagh will benefit from the scheme, which is also expected to significantly improve the area’s aesthetic landscape.
With a budget of ₹8.07 crore, the project involves removing 5 kilometers of overhead HT and LT wires and replacing them with 10 kilometers of underground LT (440V) and 1.2 kilometers of HT (11KV) network.
Additionally, 23 new double-source feeder pillar boxes will be installed to enhance the reliability of the power supply.
New GI octagonal poles and CCMS switches will also be installed for street lighting, significantly improving night-time illumination, the Chief Minister added.
Once implemented, the project will ensure an uninterrupted round-the-clock power supply throughout the year.
Gupta emphasized that the underground wiring pilot project reflects not only technological advancement but also a clear and forward-looking vision to make the capital’s energy infrastructure safer and more organized.
She noted that the current state of exposed and tangled wires not only detracts from the city’s appearance but also poses serious safety hazards. The project, she said, is a concrete step towards resolving these issues and improving the quality of life for residents.
The Chief Minister further stated that this is just the beginning and that the government plans to expand the pilot project to other parts of the national capital soon.
According to her, a dedicated budget of ₹100 crore has been allocated for the phased rollout of underground wiring across various areas of the city.
The underground wiring system is expected to make the electricity supply more reliable, safe, and efficient. The project also aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Smart Infrastructure” mission.
Meanwhile, Power Minister Ashish Sood said that the government is actively working to make Delhi’s power infrastructure more reliable, and that this initiative will significantly strengthen and modernize the existing system.
