The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested four persons, including an Executive Engineer (S-Division, CPWD, New Delhi), an Assistant Engineer (S-Division, CPWD, Chanakyapuri), and two private individuals, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹6 lakh, sources said.
The federal probe agency registered a case on Monday against 12 accused persons, including the four arrested.
It was alleged that CPWD officers in New Delhi, in conspiracy with the two private individuals from a private company, engaged in corrupt practices related to clearing bills submitted by the firm.
During the investigation, it was learnt that one of the private accused would be delivering a ₹6 lakh bribe to the government officials on Monday.
Accordingly, the agency laid a trap, catching both the giver and recipients in the act with the tainted money.
In connection with the case, CBI teams conducted searches at 10 locations linked to the accused, recovering a total of ₹55 lakh in cash.
A further probe is underway, the agency sources said.
