Calcutta University is considering to introduce Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) at postgraduate level from the next academic year.

The university authorities have called a meeting on 8 November to discuss the problematic aspects of introducing CBCS at postgraduate level. Dean and faculty members of postgraduate board of studies will be attending the meeting with the vice-chancellor and pro-vice-chancellor to examine the process for implementing CBCS. The university has already implemented CBCS in undergraduate level in its affiliated colleges but the students need more clarification about the system.

CBCS is a system where students can take courses of their own choice. University Grant Commission (UGC) has recently asked all the universities to implement CBCS in the courses at the earliest but while implementing the system, the university found that the students were confused about it.

The general secretary of Calcutta University Teachers Association (CUTA), Parthiba Basu, said: “We have a few points to discuss about CBCS which will help further in its implementation.”

Earlier, it had been decided in a meeting that after the implementation of CBCS in post-graduate level, the university will asked the board of studies to prepare the examination schedule, which will be handed over to the controller of examinations.
