  • Ward No 173: Shilpa Keluskar (BJP)

After winning the BMC election, Yamini Jadhav said, “It feels really good. I believe that I and my party have lived up to the trust people placed in us. Life becomes meaningful through struggle…”

BJP winning candidate, Shilpa Keluskar thanked voters for making her win the elections. She said, “I would first like to thank all the voters of Ward 173. It is because of their trust in me that we have achieved this victory…”

Among other key results, Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Nishikant Shinde won Ward No 194, with supporters celebrating outside the counting centre in Mumbai.

Also, the Mahayuti alliance has emerged victorious on all three seats in Mumbai, where former BJP Tamil Nadu chief Annamalai had campaigned and made a statement that triggered his political spat with MNS chief Raj Thackeray. Tajinder Tiwana and Yogesh Varma have won from Ward No. 47 and Ward No. 35 in Malad West, respectively, while Dakshata Kavthanka has won Ward No. 19 in Charkop.

In a notable setback for the BJP, Ravi Raja lost Ward No 185. Raja, who served as the Leader of the Opposition in the previous BMC House, was defeated by a Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate after switching from the Congress to the BJP.

Meanwhile, former MLA Yamini Jadhav of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena won Ward No 209, defeating the Congress candidate.

BMC election 2026: Where opposition parties stand

The latest trends suggest the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) is ahead in 65 seats, while the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Raj Thackeray,  is ahead in nine seats. The Congress is leading in 15 seats, and independent candidates are ahead in seven seats.

The early numbers indicate that the ruling alliance has maintained an edge despite the rare pre-poll reunion of the Thackeray cousins, whose parties are trailing the Mahayuti in the city.

Outside Mumbai, television channels reported that the Congress and its ally Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi had wrested control of the Latur Municipal Corporation, pointing to a mixed picture across Maharashtra’s civic bodies.

Counting process and election details

The counting is underway at 23 designated centres across Mumbai and is being conducted under Election Commission of India guidelines. Security, traffic regulation and law-and-order arrangements have been tightened across the city. Officials said the detailed counting plan had been approved earlier by the Municipal Commissioner.

The civic polls, held on January 15, were conducted to elect corporators for 227 wards. A party or alliance requires 114 seats to secure a majority in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Around 1,700 candidates contested this year, including 879 women and 821 men, marking a 25.27 per cent decline compared to the 2,275 candidates who contested the 2017 elections.

The BJP contested 136 wards, while the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) fielded candidates in 89 wards. The alliance stayed out of four wards and had friendly contests in select seats. On the other side, the Shiv Sena (UBT) contested 164 wards, the MNS 52, and the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) 12 wards.

As counting continues, Mumbai remains the centre of attention, with trend numbers suggesting a firm edge for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance in the BMC election results 2026, even as officials stress that final outcomes will be clear only after all rounds are completed.
