BJP candidate from Shalimar Bagh-B ward, Anita Jain on Wednesday registered a resounding victory with the highest margin of 10,101 votes in the November 30 MCD byelections, defeating the AAP candidate.
By winning this ward, the BJP has retained an important seat, earlier held by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, when she was a councillor.

Notably, the ward was vacant after Gupta was elected as MLA in the assembly polls held in February this year, and later became the CM.
Delhi CM had also conducted a roadshow in support of the BJP candidate from the ward in the month of November.
BJP candidate Jain secured 16,843 votes, and defeated Aam Aadmi Party’s Babita Rana, with a huge margin of over 10,000 votes in this ward reserved for women.
In the 2022 Municipal Corporation elections, Gupta had defeated the AAP candidate with a margin of 7990 votes.
The sweeping win of the BJP in this ward is said to be significant, reflecting Gupta’s reputation.
Meanwhile, the BJP received over 46 per cent of vote share in these by- polls, while six women candidates fielded by the saffron party have won from the respective wards.
CM has also expressed her gratitude towards the people of the city for their support to the BJP candidates in the by- polls.
Taking to social media platform X, she credited the party’s win in the seven wards to the workers’ efforts and the strength of the organisation.
She reiterated that the government is committed to the development of the city, and assured that work is being done non-stop in this direction.
