Bihar tops in ISRO’s development index study in electricity sector

Bihar topped in ISRO’s development index study.

According to the Night Time Light Atlas (NTL Atlas) prepared by ISRO’s National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC) for the last decade (2012-2021), there has been an average increase of 43 percent at the national level. While this increase has been 474 percent in the state of Bihar, which is at the forefront as compared to other states of the country. It is notable that the above indices have been prepared by NRSC on the basis of data from NASA and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).

This extraordinary achievement of Bihar is definitely the result of the wide-scale work done for strengthening and expansion in the power sector in the last decade. Among big states, this increase in the last decade is followed by Bihar in Kerala at 119 percent, Madhya Pradesh at 66 percent, Uttar Pradesh at 61 percent and Gujarat at 58 percent. These statistics make it clear that Bihar has worked towards electricity reform at a record pace in the last decade.

It may be noted that in the year 2012 itself, the Honorable Chief Minister of Bihar had expressed the commitment of the state government to improve the power situation of the state. Thereafter, in 2012 itself, five power companies were formed by reorganizing the Bihar State Electricity Board. The state government has not only provided administrative and financial assistance in implementing power reform projects in the state on priority, but has also taken several positive steps for the convenience of power consumers.
