Senior IPS officer Bansal appointed as Odisha DGP

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday appointed senior IPS officer Sunil Kumar Bansal as the State’s new Director General of Police (DGP).

1987-batch Odisha cadre IPS officer, Bansal on central deputation is currently officiating as the Special Director, Intelligence Bureau, Mumbai.

Bansal will assume charge as DGP Odisha from incumbent DGP Abhay who will complete his two-year tenure on 31 December.

The 1986-batch IPS officer, Abhay, who will retire on 31 December, was appointed as the director-general of Odisha police (DGP) in November 2019.

Bansal was among the three senior IPS officers shortlisted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha.
