Odisha logs 1,193 fresh COVID-19 cases: Contagion claims 60 more lives

Odisha Friday added 1,193 COVID-19 cases with the tally soaring to 9,92,375, while 60 fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 6,757, according to State’s COVID dashboard portal.

The coastal state now has 10,809 active cases, and 9,74,756 patients have so far recovered from the disease, including 1,177 in the last 24 hours.

Khurda district, comprising state capital Bhubaneswar, reported the highest number of 425 new infections followed by Cuttack 161, Balasore 69, Jagatsinghpur 56, and Jajpur 50.

The new fatalities include 13 deaths in Bargarh followed by 11 from Cuttack, six from Bolangir, five each from Angul, Jagatsinghpur, and Sambalpur, four from Deoghar, three each from Dhenkanal and Jajpur, two each from Balasore and Jharsuguda and one death reported from Bhadrak district.

A total of 53 other COVID-19 patients have also died due to comorbidities.

Around 60% of the total death toll has been recorded in the State in the past 74 days, thus indicating the disturbing fact of the doubling of the cumulative fatalities. As many as 4,003 Covid patients have succumbed to infection since 31 May at a daily average of over 54 deaths while the cumulative death toll currently stood at 6,757. The surge in deaths had begun to emerge after the launch of the district-level audit for death recount.

Khurda continues to be in the red zone with 3,901 active cases, while Cuttack is under the yellow zone with 1,282 active cases. The remaining 28 districts are in the green zone, he said.

Odisha has thus far conducted over 1.68 crore sample tests, taking into account 71,197 clinical examinations on Wednesday. The cumulative positivity rate is at 5.89 percent and the case fatality rate is at 0.68 percent.

To date, 1,86,45,414 people have been inoculated, with 43,02,619 beneficiaries having received the second dose of the vaccine.

The State’s recovery rate currently stands at 98.32% while active cases account for 1.08% of total positive cases registered in the State.

The State’s share is 3.09% in the country’s confirmed virus caseload while the active cases are 2.85% of India’s total active cases. The number of cured patients accounts for 3.11% of the country’s total recovery. Odisha has so far reported 1.57% of the country’s Coronavirus deaths.
