Another feather in the cap for youngest panchayat pradhan

The youngest panchayat pradhan of Himachal Pradesh, Jabna Chauhan has yet again added another feather in her cap, by figuring among the top 100 influential women in the country.

A dynamic Pradhan of the remote panchayat Tharjon in Seraj assembly constituency that has five villages with around 3,000 population, Jabna Chauhan (24) a graduate has been instrumental in working for the upliftment of her panchayat and empowering women.

An elated Jabna Chauhan told The Statesman that she was informed through e-mail that she has been selected among the top 100 influential women in India by an organisation Women Innovators and will be receiving the award on 30 April at New Delhi.

Already having the distinction of being the youngest pradhan in the country, her unique initiatives that has won commendation is also growing with the passage of time.

The list of works in her panchayat range from cleanliness, associating tree plantation with the birth of girl child to usher in the green revolution and simultaneously sensitising the need to save the girl child (2018), ridding her panchayat of intoxicants (alcohol and Tobacco products).

Her dedication and hard work has been given due credit with a string of awards. She got recognition in the state with her panchyat being declared the cleanest panchayat in Mandi district and award for the best pradhan in 2017.

Outside her home state, her services won acclaim as she was amongst the delegation of members who participated at the national level function of women panchayat representatives at Gandhinagar in Gujarat in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also participated in 2017.

Recently, she had participated as Chief Guest in a programme on Women’s Empowerment and Swachh Bharat Mission that was organised by Jharkhand government.

Chauhan has also been felicitated by Bollywood star Akshay Kumar for her contribution towards the society in 2017. She disclosed that she contested the elections with the zeal to bring about the much needed change in 2016 at the age of 22.

After winning the elections she formed her brigade of local youth that is helping her in scripting her thoughts into reality to bring about a change that she is striving for. Jabna Chauhan has also recently started an NGO that has taken up the task to undertake welfare activities.
