Nine Trinamul Congress councillors of Kanchrapara municipality who joined the BJP after the Lok Sabha poll, today rejoined the Trinamul Congress in the presence of North 24 Parganas district president Jyotipriya Mullick and national youth president Abhishek Banerjee.

One Trinamul Congress councillor from Halishar municipality who defected to the BJP also rejoined the TMC today. The programme took place at Trinamul Bhavan. Diamond Harbour MP and Trinamul Youth Congress president Abhishek Banerjee said: “Already we had five councillors, five have already rejoined the party from the BJP. today. With the return of nine councillors, the total number of councillors are 19.”

Mr Banerjee said both chairman and vice chairman of Kanchrapa municipality have rejoined the Trinamul Congress. He also said, “Many who defected to the BJP just after the Lok Sabha poll are now in touch with us but our party will decide whom we are going to take them back.”

Taking a jibe at BJP leader Mukul Roy, Mr Banerjee said, “A leader who can’t protect his constituency, is aiming to take away 107 MLAs of our party. Will he be able to keep his son in the BJP?” He also said, Mukul Roy is a “Made-in-China political Chanakya”.
