Over 500 centres to check vehicles pollution in Punjab

In order to check the pollution level of the vehicles, the Punjab transport department has established 599 pollution check centres across the state.

Punjab Transport Minister, Aruna Chaudhary said here on Sunday that these centreswill check the pollution level of the vehicles under Central Motor Vehicles Rules 115 and issue certificates as per rules with regard to the pollution level being under prescribed standards.

She also said that the enforcement wing of the transport department conducts checks at the regular intervals on the pollution under control certification.

“The vehicles which do not carry these are issued challans in accordance with the motor vehicles act or rules”, said Chaudhary.

The Transport Minister further highlighted that the pollution check centres are also subjected to regular checks and inspection as per the rules.

Divulging more, she said that under the Mission Tandarust (healthy) Punjab, the various officials got free pollution check centres established in their respective areas throughout the state. The Minister also said that 3006 pollution under control certificates have been issued.

“Not only this but car pooling is also being encouraged and popularised among the people as part of a special campaign to put a stop to the pollution in the urban regions”, she said.

Giving more details, the Transport Minister said that the department is getting readied a software which would see all the pollution check centres of the stat getting interlinked thus leading to transparency in the issuance of the pollution under control certifications.
