The three day long stalemate in Odisha Assembly over the BJD government’s failure to appointment a Lokayukta since last three years, was finally resolved on Thursday with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Arukh informing the House that the govt will await orders of the Supreme Court on the appointment of Lokayukta in other states and take appropriate action.

Arukh made the statement on Thursday as had been decided at a all party meeting convened by Speaker Pradip Amat yesterday. He said, “Related matters pertaining to Lokayuktas with respect to different states are pending before the SC for decision”.

The Opposition relented and normal business of the Assembly commenced. The Congress and BJP had stalled the Assembly for three days demanding a statement from CM over failing to appoint a Lokayukta for three years.

Outside the Assembly, the leader of Opposition Mr Narasingha Mishra said the govt has no reply to our questions on a Lokayukta as the bill was passed in 2014 and had received the assent of the President in 2015.

There is no answer to that and now the government is taking shelter of a court order which basically relates to other states.
